Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition which principally affects the face. Rosacea has a variety of triggers. However, it is not known what causes the condition to start in the first place.

Rosacea causes skin redness, and its symptoms often begin with episodes of flushing. But other symptom such as burning and stinging sensations, pustules, visible thin blood veins can develop when the condition gets worse. Symptoms can come and go.

Rosacea Treatment at Laserlife involves the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat the damaged superficial layer of the skin while delivering thermal energy to deeper tissue. Take a look at the before & after image to see what Rosacea Treatment can do for you.

Rosacea Treatment at Laserlife – The Process

Prior to treatment you must first undergo a consultation where the details about you medical history are obtained in order to confirm suitability. Before proceeding you will be asked to sign a consent form and undergo a patch test 24 hours before treatment. You will be advised to keep your skin as light as possible.

We recommend you arrive with no makeup on. We apply a cold gel on the area to be treated. Dark glasses are also provided to protect your eyes from the bright light. The hand piece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied.

The feeling of the light being applied has frequently been described as a slight sting and sometimes even as having a small rubber band flicked at your skin

During treatment, the glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to the skin. Light is delivered to the skin surface in gradient movements.

IPL treats the damaged superficial layer of the skin while delivering thermal energy to deeper tissue. The system filters the light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by haemoglobinin (the blood in your problem vessels).

The light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the blood vessels, causing the vessels to gradually disappear up to 4 weeks after treatment.

The laser targets only the unwanted veins, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. You may experience some bruising or swelling after treatment, but this should subside within 72 hours.

  • No sun exposure for up to 30 days prior to treatment.
  • No fake tan or gradual tan for 10 days prior to treatment.
  • No use of topical retinol products to be used in the treated area 3 days prior to treatment.
  • No Aspirin or anti coagulants to be taken 7 days prior to treatment. Your GP’s permission may be needed for this.
